Tambuwal began learning the political ropes in 1999 while serving as Senator Abdullahi Wali’s personal assistant on legislative affairs. He is married to Senator Wali. After being knowledgeable about legislative operations, Tambuwal made the decision to run for office in the 2003 elections to represent the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency. On the All Nigerian Peoples Party’s platform, he was successful and elected to the House of Representatives (ANPP). Together with Attahiru Bafarawa, the former governor of Sokoto State, he defected to the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) a few months before the 2007 national elections. Tambuwal swung back to the ANPP, where he eventually was able to pick up a ticket for the election and was successfully re-elected for a second term, but when the DPP rejected return tickets to former ANPP legislators. In 2007, Tambuwal left the ANPP once more, this time joining the party in power, the Peoples Democratic Party. Tambuwal has held a number of Lower House positions. He was appointed House Minority Leader in 2005 and served in that capacity till he joined the PDP. He was chosen as the Deputy Chief Whip after being re-elected to the House in 2007. The House Committee on Rules & Business, Communications, Judiciary, Inter-Parliamentary, and Water Resources are just a few of the committees that Tambuwal has served on at various points in time. Family life
Tambuwal is the adoring spouse of Hajiya Maryam Mairo and Hajiya Mariya. Hajiya Mariya, who is said to be from the illustrious Sanyinna Royal family of Sokoto, arrived first, perhaps in 1995. She first met Aminu when he was “a sweet young law graduate from the neighboring town of Tambuwal,” as she recalls him. She was attracted to him, got married to him, gave birth to four children with him, and supported him ever since his early political aspirations. Maryam Mairo arrived 21 years later, a stunning 36-year-old lady who was well-educated, acquainted with the inner workings of power and status, and had made significant contributions to the telecommunications, oil and gas, IT, and energy industries. When Tambuwal was elected governor, he had to decide which of the two women would hold the position of first lady because having both women in that position might not be good for him. The first wife typically holds the post of First Lady, but such coincidences are out of the usual. Tambuwal adores both of his wives equally. Six children were born to Aminu Tambuwal. These kids were born to him and his first spouse, Hajiya Mariya Aminu Tambuwal, who he wed in 1994. However, it took years before his second wife was able to give birth to children. After several years of marriage, she at last gave birth to Aminu, her hero, a stunning baby girl who was an exact replica of him. It’s interesting that Aminu has received special praise for displaying admirable restraint and maturity. He stood with Mairo passionately and faithfully whereas so many other men would have taken mistresses out of wedlock and tortured their wives for not bearing them children.
