WHAT IS CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION (CAC)?
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) was established by the Companies and Allied Matters Act.
They are the body in Nigeria that regulates the formation and management of companies in Nigeria.
You may have other regulatory bodies targeted at some particular professions or industry but CAC is still important for everybody. For example, the fact that you are registered with The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) cannot exempt you from CAC registration.
TYPES OF CAC REGISTRATION
There are different types of CAC registration but we will limit our discussion in this book series to only one- “Business name”
On the real sense, no registration type is superior to another. It only depends on the system of operation of the business you have in mind.
The business name is very functional and well recognized both locally and internationally. You will receive a certificate with a unique batch number upon completion of your registration.
Other types available are Limited Liability, Incorporated Trustee etc.

THE COST OF REGISTRATION OF A BUSINESS NAME
The amount of money you will spend during CAC registration will depend on some factors as highlighted below: 1. How many times your name is rejected during Name reservation
- How many times your application is queried during the proper registration
- The errors you make during the entire processes
- Your knowledge and experience of the process
BASIC COSTS:
Name reservation: 500 naira
Registration proper: 10, 000 naira. However, with the current promo, it has been slashed by 50%. So, it is now 5,000 Naira
OTHER COSTS:
- If you are paying online, you will be charged an additional 100 naira convenience fee for all transaction.
- Cost Multiple Name reservation due to Rejection
- Cost of correcting errors when your application is queried.

- Transportation costs. Etc
