Business Description of Non-Profit Organization Business Plan in Nigeria
Business: NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
Industry: NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION (Non-Profit Organization Business plan in Nigeria)
PATILAD WONDERS is a non-profit organization aimed at providing mentoring programs for middle and high school youths in Nigeria. The program will form partnerships with local school districts and the juvenile court system. Our goal is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual responsibility be re-established that will give youths the commitment to follow through on path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
We know that building an effective, efficient and sustainable non-profit organization is a challenging endeavour even under the best of circumstances in Nigeria. Many factors contribute to this reality including limited funding sources for capital investment and non-profit financing, sparse and uneven access to capacity building resources and information, a fragmented voice on public policy matters, and deep isolation due to our geographic layout.
To strengthen the non-profit community and to address challenges like those noted above, many states and localities across the country have established basic pillars of non-profit support infrastructure that organizations and non-profit leaders can turn to for advocacy, resources, and support. This non-profit support infrastructure is akin to the critical public and private infrastructure elements developed by community leaders long ago to support the business sector such as advocacy, networking, and research through Chambers of Commerce and educational training and financing services provided by the Small Business Administration. Whether for-profit or non-profit, organizations greatly benefit from a healthy and accessible support infrastructure that can provide on-going resources from start-up to scale-up to maturity.
PATILAD WONDER’S staff members provide support services to the broad community and the smaller site based communities, including partner and resource development, recruitment and matching strategies, orientations and on-going workshops for professional development of all mentors and partners, effective assessment and evaluation tools, and methods to gather and disseminate information for new initiatives and on-going programs. Our eventual goal is to have a centre with academic and career mentoring programs and our training workshops in every public school, public housing site, and those churches, temples or synagogues that desire a program for their children and teens. In the long term, we anticipate that each site will help raise the funds needed for site leaders, which would include a parent/retiree from the site’s community and student.
Have you ever wondered what the world would be like especially for the less privileged and poor people, if there wasn’t a ‘Non Profit Industry’ in place? The fact remains that the non – profit industry is a major component in the equation of our world; be it social welfare, health care, education, spiritual, as well as other ramification of life.
We make use of our excess revenues to pursue a cause that would be beneficial to the public or a particular group of people. In a nutshell, the overall goal of our non-profit organization is not to be successful in terms of wealth creation, but to be a success when it comes to giving value to the group of people we direct our services at or to the cause we choose to pursue. With what we are set out to achieve; reducing crime rate to the barest minimum and empowering youths in both Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole, we know that it is a task that can’t be achieved by just an organization. It takes the collective effort of stake holders to be able to make appreciable impact when it comes to reducing crime rate and empowering youths to get involved in governance and enterprise development. It is important to state that we have been working towards getting some office equipment, electric appliances and furniture needed from manufacturers as part of their support for our cause. We are at the finishing stage of discussion. So far, we have been able to raise about 40 per cent of the needed start – up capital and we hope to meet up with our target before 31st December, 2017 and then open up our office on the 10th of January, 2018.
Patilad Wonder have been able to identify reasons why Non – profit organizations close shop or remain redundant, and we have mapped out strategies that will help us overcome the challenges. In the bid to continue to stay afloat, we will run exhibitions and events that will help us generate funds in addition to the grants and donations that are available to NGOs in Nigeria. We have also perfected strategies to build relationships and networks around big time donors (corporate donors and individuals (philanthropic) in Nigeria. Maintaining large overheads can be financially demanding for Non – profits organizations, which is why we have put structures and processes in place that will help us conveniently work with volunteers and interns on various projects and even in our office operations.
Although, we intend setting up our offices in the south western states, but with time we have the plans to spread to other regions in Nigeria.
