An online marketplace is an e-commerce site that connects potential buyers with sellers. It is also a website or application that encourages buying and selling. Online marketplace falls into three categories depending on their target audience, they include:
- Business-Business (B2B) – A B2B refers to an online marketplace where one business system sells goods and services to other business systems.
- Business to Customer (B2C) – refers to an online marketplace where businesses sell products and services to intending buyers and customers.
- Customer to Customer (C2C) – This is an online marketplace that enables to trade with each other and carry out business transactions.
Online shopping is now the trend in Nigeria. The convenience and deals that come with it make it, even so, tempting that Nigerians now spend about 1.3 Billion Naira online shopping.
According to a report by Philips consulting, it had been ascertained that no less than 500 orders are made daily in the renowned online shopping site in Nigeria.
Seeing this great opportunity, investors had pumped about 205 Billion Naira into the e-commerce industries in the last two years.

1). JUMIA:
Jumia is one of the best and first online stores to really capture the attention of Nigerians. It is a go-to place for cheaper pieces of stuff; Jumia is an e-commerce site where you can shop for anything. Jumia allows you to buy cheaper pieces of stuff, quality products, and has a good return policy for damaged goods. Jumia was founded by Jeremy Hodara and Sacha Poignonne in 2012. Jumia is the largest online store in Nigeria, with over 377,700 visitors daily on its online platform. Jumia pays on delivery and has a Black Friday where its products are subsidised with amazing offers, deals and discounts.
Jumia has nothing less than 50,000 items in stock and over 30 products categories. 38% of online shoppers in Nigeria prefer the online shopping site. Jumia sales varieties, and it is the online store in Nigeria with the most extensive categories. It delivers its products to other countries as well.
2).KONGA:
Konga is another large online marketplace; this is a rival to Jumia. This Nigerian online shopping is preferred by 25% of online shoppers in the country and boast an extensive range of products like Jumia.
You can buy almost anything on Konga, and this includes: phones, laptops, groceries, TVs, electronics etc
Konga was founded in the year 2012 by Sim Shagaya as an online shopping mall. In terms of global internet engagement, the company has logistics services that enable the timely shipment and delivery of packages to customers. The company deals on pay delivery notes. Recently, it had introduced its secured mode of payment known as Konga Pay which usually gives a discount when used for payment.
3). JIJI:
Jiji is an online marketplace that enables potential buyers and sellers to meet to sell goods and services. It connects sellers who wish to sell their commodities, both new and fairly used goods, to intending buyers who wish to buy. Anton Wolyansky founded Jiji in the year 2014 in Lagos state Nigeria.

4).OLX:
OLX is an online auction site where sellers auction their either used or new products, and interested buyers can contact them. Here, OLX is not responsible for any transaction carried out. You contact the seller, meet with him or her in a safe place, test the item and pay for it if you like it. When meeting with an OLX buyer or seller, meeting in a public place is best to avoid being duped. OLX launched in Nigeria in 2012. The company purchased its Nigerian competitors Trade Stable. However, in February 2018, OLX announced the shutdown of its Nigerian office and complete pullout from Nigeria.
5). PAYPORTE:
Payporte is an omnichannel retail company founded in Nigeria in the year 2012 by a team of young tech enthusiasts. Vconnnect was launched on the 8th of March 2011 by Deepankar and his co-founder Chander Mohan.
7). AJEBOMARKET:
