Controversy
Adeleke was accused and charged with falsifying his WAEC scores and high school recommendations. The Osogbo high court asked him to renounce his bid for governor. When Adeleke filed his declaration to INEC on July 20, 1988, Osun State was not yet a state. The SSCE outcomes alluded to in the testimony additionally provided proof that the examination format wasn’t in use in 1981. The principal who signed the 1988 testimonial and the 2018 testimonial both bear his or her signatures in the 2018 Headed, Ede Muslim High School testimonial. Adeleke’s counsel claims that his secondary school hasn’t publicly disputed the statement, which resulted in the principal’s arrest. The principal was detained as a result. In requesting that the lawsuit be dismissed, Adeleke’s defense attorney claims that Adeleke’s secondary school has not publicly denied his evidence. The case was dismissed because the court ruled that Adeleke’s forgeries could not be proven. One of the witnesses said during his evidence in court that Adeleke wasn’t in the examination room.
On September 22, 2018, Adeleke ran for governor of Osun state under the PDP against prominent competitors Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of the APC and Iyiola Omisore of the SDP. The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) pronounced the election inconclusive and scheduled a rematch for September 27, 2018. After the run-off, the APC candidate Oyetola was crowned the victor. Adeleke denounced the outcome, calling the election a “coup.” The Abuja-based tribunal announced Adeleke as the election’s victor on March 22, 2019. On Friday, July 5, 2019, the Supreme Court subsequently determined that Gboyega Oyetola was the legitimate victor of the 2018 Osun State governorship election. Adeleke ran as a candidate for the PDP on July 16, 2022, to unseat incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola. With 402,979 votes to 375,077, Adeleke defeated Gboyega Oyetola. Olorunda, Ede South, Orolu, Osogbo, Odo Otin, Ifelodun, Boluwaduro, Atakumosa, and Ila are just a few of the local government districts that Adeleke won.
