PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES IN NIGERIA
The basic necessities of man are food, clothing, and shelter. Medication could be said to be the fourth, due to its importance in critical health conditions. The need for medication cannot be overemphasized due to its essence in the treatment of various diseases.
In Nigeria, history preserves records of how natural ingredients were exploited and combined to produce what was referred to as “traditional medicine”. In fairness and sincerity, this traditional medicine was very effective in many cases, but at other times, it was overwhelmed by the gravity of the illness. This, I suppose, was a result of poor assumption and interpretation of the symptoms, incorrect dosage administration, and poor preservation methods.
With the advent of orthodox medicine, the narrative has changed due to proper regulation of pharmaceutical activities by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. This association performs many functions including documenting and monitoring the processes of pharmaceutical companies, inducting qualified personnel, and many other functions.
Though Orthodox medicine has solved many of the problems that militated the efficacy of traditional medicine (e.g. Dosage administration). Orthodox medicine also has its own problems such as abuse, poor hygiene during manufacture, sale of expired drugs, and most importantly; the side effects of these drugs.
Therefore, to help check all these, this article is written to enlighten the reader on the legitimately recognized Pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria.
