Biography
Amaechi was born into the late Elder Fidelis Amaechi and Mary Amaechi’s family in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. His first and last names are Igbo, which translate to “Who knows tomorrow” and “God is strength or force,” respectively. He was raised in Port Harcourt’s heavily populated Diobu neighborhood. From 1970 until 1976, he attended St. Theresa’s Primary School for his early schooling. After attending Government Secondary School Okolobiri, he received his West African Senior School Certificate in 1982. Amaechi graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honors) in English Studies and Literature while serving as president of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS). In 1988, after completing the required National Youth Service Corps, he joined Peter Odili’s Pamo Clinics and Hospitals Limited, where he remained until 1992. Also, he sits on the boards of directors for a number of businesses, including West Africa Glass Industries Limited and Risonpalm Nigeria Ltd. Amaechi posted images of his convocation along with an announcement that he is a certified graduate of law on his Twitter account on November 19, 2022.
Rotimi Amaechi’s political ambition
As Nigeria entered its Third Republic, Rotimi began her career as the National Republican Convention’s secretary in the Ikwerrre Local Government of Rivers State. Rotimi Amaechi served as Peter Odili’s early mentor and special assistant from 1992 to 1994 while he was the deputy governor of Rivers State. This man brought Rotimi Amaechi under his supervision since he had such a strong belief in him. Rotimi Amaechi served as the Democratic Party of Nigeria’s (DPN) state secretary in 1996 when General Sani Abacha was implementing his transition plan. To serve his constituents, Rotimi Amaechi ran for and was elected to the Rivers State House of Assembly in 1999. Later, he was chosen to lead Nigeria’s Conference of State Assembly Speakers.
As speaker of the house, Rotimi Amaechi cleverly increased his favorable relationships between the executive and legislative branches of government in Rivers State by collaborating closely with the governor of that state, Peter Odili. However, after that, something unexpectedly negative occurred. In an effort to succeed Peter Odili as governor in 2007, Rotimi Amaechi, for unknown reasons, launched a campaign against him and openly disparaged the image of the governor. The strategy was successful. Rotimi Amaechi ran for governor of Rivers State in 2007 and defeated every uprising that took place. Because the PDP substituted his name as the party’s governorship candidate, he had to take the PDP to court. Up until 2015, Rotimi Amaechi served as governor for two terms, prioritizing the construction of roads and bridges. The modernisation of transportation services and urban renewal were two other priorities for Rotimi Amaechi as governor. To provide public transportation inside the city of Port Harcourt, his administration started construction on a monorail. To enhance the State’s electricity supply, a few power plant projects (Afam, Trans Amadi, Onne) were also constructed. Chibuike Amaechi is a Commander of the Order of the Niger, a national honor (CON). Rotimi Amaechi joined the A.P.P. in 2015 after leaving the PDP, and the Buhari administration later appointed him minister of transportation. His present work heavily emphasizes the Lagos-Ibadan Train Line’s revival of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Rotimi Amaechi 2023
Ameachi announced in April 2022 that he would represent the All Progressive Congress in the 2023 presidential elections (APC). Bola Tinubu defeated him in the primaries, though. Amaechi received 361 votes, compared to Tinubu’s 1,271 total votes.

Rotimi Ameachi’s Achievements
At the time of his inauguration, Rivers State was on the verge of anarchy due to the operations of roving militia groups acting as Niger Delta militants. Knowing that it would be challenging to carry out developmental efforts in the existing climate of terror, which had forced countless businesses and people to leave Rivers, he promised to restore peace and order. He gave the go-ahead for a large military attack in Okrika in December 2007, which the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua endorsed and used to drive out members of the Ateke Tom-led Niger Delta Vigilante as well as other raids around the state.
Before 2007, the state’s educational system had failed due to years of neglect that had destroyed the essential framework of each of the 1,300 primary schools. School buildings with damaged roofs and crowded classrooms with students seated on the floor to learn were commonplace. Amaechi wanted to change things, so he declared an emergency in the sector. By constructing 500 of the 700 new, modern primary schools with 14 classrooms, he first addressed the infrastructure shortage. He also retrained and hired 13,000 teachers. These schools now number over 250, and the pupils are provided with free uniforms, school sandals, and textbooks. Many hundreds of Rivers citizens, both indigenous and non-indigenous, have benefited from the state’s overseas undergraduate and graduate scholarship programs to pursue their educational goals.
To address issues with healthcare delivery, his administration built roughly 110 health centers dispersed across almost all of the state’s wards. He also built the Prof. Kelsey Harrison Hospital and Dental-Maxillo Facial Hospital in Port Harcourt, but the Braithwaite Memorial Hospital is still little more than a skeletal remnant of what it once was. In Port Harcourt, a modern nursing school is being constructed.
