Biography
Victor Osimhen, an Edo state native, was born on December 29, 1998, in Lagos. Osimhen was raised in Olusosun, a small neighborhood near Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, together with his brother Andrew and 4 other brothers. The neighborhood contains one of Africa’s biggest dumpsites. For the young Victor, childhood was not all roses. To support his studies and the general survival of his family, he sold sachet water on the streets. Victor Osimhen attended Olusosun Primary School, a neighborhood community school. Students and local youth frequently gather on the school field every evening. Osimhen, while a young boy, would go to the field to watch his older brother, Andrew, play. His sibling was a skilled ball handler. Victor got the opportunity to study the fundamentals of football while still hawking, all thanks to his brother. Perhaps Andrew Osimhen was the first to recognize that little Victor might become talented in the future. Due to this, Andrew made the decision to stop playing the game and deal with his newspaper company in order to help out his sibling.
Osimhen’s Football Career
Victor Osimhen Got Scouted.
Osimhen quickly emerged as the field’s main observer. Local football scouts noticed something special about him. He was taken by them. With the Ojota, Lagos-based team Ultimate Strikers, Victor Osimhen had his first successful trial. Victor Osimhen was invited to represent the Nigerian Under-17 squad in 2014 as a result of his excellent play with Ultimate Strikers and by coach Amuneke, the then-coach of the Golden Eaglets. Later, Osimhen will play a crucial role in the 2015 Fifa U-17 tournament, which was hosted in Chile. Osimhen made his international debut for Nigeria against Chile and scored twice. He appeared in all the news. Nigerians felt proud at home. Scouts from Europe kept an eye on him. What a buzz it was! After winning the trophy, the Golden Eaglets team remained the most successful U-17 international football team. After scoring 10 goals during the competition, Osimhen earned both the U-17 Silver Ball and the Golden Boot awards.
The journey of Osimhen to Europe
Following his impressive displays in Chile, it was claimed that several BIG clubs in Europe, like Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur, were interested in signing the young talisman. Give it a name!
Surprisingly, Victor Osimhen turned down every offer because a different middle-weight team had given him the MOST money. Osimhen made his professional career announcement to the world shortly after being crowned the 2015 African Youth Player of the Year at the CAF Awards in Abuja in January 2016. He would be playing for the German Bundesliga team Wolfsburg. Soon after, Osimhen settled in Germany. Beginning in May 2017, he agreed to a pre-contract agreement for three and a half years. He would remain at the club through June 2022 under this agreement. Osimhen was eliminated four months after making his Germany debut; a shoulder issue required surgery. His first season was ruined by this. Because of his subpar performance that year, Victor Osimhen’s worth on the transfer market decreased. He had zero goals overall at Wolfsburg.
Osimhen’s dream must have been to represent Nigeria at the world cup once more, this time with the Super Eagles, the national senior side. Osimhen (20 years old at the time) regrettably lost out on selections due to health problems. According to reports, he was hospitalized during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Osimhen then participated in summer trials with Belgian clubs Club Brugge and Zulte Waregem. Unfortunately, he contracted malaria, which negatively impacted his health and caused both clubs to reject him.Victor finally heard the news he had been waiting for on August 22nd, 2018. He was accepted on a season-long loan by Sporting Charleroi of Belgium’s First Division A. Osimhen answered right away with a backheel goal, his first career goal. With the Belgian team, he enjoyed a successful run, playing 36 games and tallying 20 goals.
At the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Osimhen was a part of the Nigerian side that came in third. His only game throughout the competition was the third-place match against Tunisia, which the Super Eagles won 1-0. Victor Osimhen, 20, was signed by the French club Losc Lille from Sporting Charleroi somewhere in the middle of 2019. The five-year contract Osimhen signed will keep him at the Stade Pierre Mauroy through 2024. He produced a total of 27 apps and netted 13 goals.
Osimhen advanced his career in July 2021 by moving to Naples in a transaction that was said to be valued about €50 million.
